Thursday Links

Posted on | October 22, 2009 | No Comments

I realize I haven’t been posting a lot of geeky links or… posts for a blog that claims to be predominantly geeky! I have no explanation. This is pretty much all just what I happen to have found interesting this week.

Trans Virgin Marys and other such heresies
A short but interesting article on Questioning Transphobia about a calendar of religious images posed for by trans women, and about the relationship between Christianity’s perception of the divine’s agents as physically normative.

Ben and Jerry’s renames ice cream Hubby Hubby in celebration of gay marriage
An article on Telegraph. Mmm ice cream.

Second Shift for the Sick
Articulates an aspect of able-bodied privilege by describing what it means not having it.

Jeftoon8 on DeviantArt has been posting his own monstrous versions of Disney princesses for some time now. My personal favourites are Ariel, Mulan and Cinderella. Spooky!

On a similar note, the immensely talented David Kawena has a Disney series of his own – this time of hunky, barely clad Disney princes/heroes. Fantastic work and somewhat NSFW. I’m linking to this now partly because I saw his paintings reposted without credit on Livejournal some time ago, which I found to be in very poor taste. I figured I could do my part in getting his name out there.

Ravenari paints beautiful, often fairy-tale inspired traditional paintings. See the pictures, read the stories, be aware they won’t all be happy.
