Section: Like Totally Gay + Religion
A Malawi gay couple is arrested for indecency for having gotten engaged. They deny charges of indecency. I applaud their bravery and I wonder what their defense will be in a country where homosexual acts are forbidden by law – abstinence, perhaps? That would be a beautiful idea. We will see.
Archbishop of York condems Ugandan anti-gay bill. Buttsex is wrong, says Dr Sentamu, but so is killing people for it.
Tamara Dietrich wrote a whimsical article for the Daily Press on Christmas’ Pagan roots. Earned link for pointing out the absurdity of Christians complaining about the ruination of the winter holiday’s Christian meaning.

The Learned Fangirl on why you should watch Inu-Yasha on Hulu. Good for Americans, anyway.
Often it seems like the only reason a science fiction character (or a crime thriller character, or a Lifetime made-for-TV movie character) is unable to walk is so that they can be miraculously cured (that’s if they weren’t just faking it all along). Charlie Jane Anders lists 20 Science Fiction Characters Who Got Their Legs Back on IO9.
IO9 also lists 15 Reasons to Live For the Next 10 Years. Whoot!
Arachne Jericho writes about Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in fiction on Tor.com: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4.

Section: Manipulation of the Masses vs. Actual Human Experience
Wheelchair Dancer posts about the dehumanization of disability for charity advertisement.
Anything is possible except an end to these kinds of stories – Anna on FWD/Forward on pretty much the same phenomenon.
Sarah posts about her experience growing up with sensory processing disorder and Asperger’s in On Failing Girlgood: Thoughts on Gender & Disability. Interesting also because it delineates some of the pointless things expected of girls in order for them to be “normal” girls.

Questioning Transphobia posts about the implications of a recent discovery on how autosomes, not just chromosomes, have an effect on sex differentiation in Careful With That X, You Gene.
FlipFloppingJoy.com posts on ”dying of fatness“. See also Lauredhel and Susurro’s comments, and, well, a lot of the other comments too. Some great discussion there.

Section: Some More Stuff About Brains
The Power of Magical Thinking - an article by Shirley S. Wang on the importance of imagination in children’s cognitive development.
Geek Feminism points out one example of how job selection works.
Recovery Patterns of Codependence on Codependents Anonymous. I’m not sure how I feel about codependence vs. normal bonding, but I know I don’t like Twelve Step programs because of the Christian philosophy inherent in the Steps. The recovery patterns look pretty awesome, though.
