“Mary Sue” is derogative fandom term for an original female character written into fanfiction who falls in love with the author’s favourite character and is often a self-insert, blatant or otherwise. More on that here. The stereotype has evolved a great deal over the years and and the discussion on what she exactly is goes on in the interwebs, but today I have some links to discussion about what having such a derogative term in the first place means, from a feminist perspective.

Boosette terms Mary Sue shaming bully culture. TheDeadParrot doesn’t like “Mary Sue” type characters because they denigrate female characters in the original. Niqaeli cannot abide the policing of “Mary Sue” characters. GoldJadeOcean summarizes.
